Suspect In Sunnyvale Daughter Kidnapping, Mother Stabbing Arrested

SUNNYVALE (CBS SF) -- Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety officers on Tuesday arrested a 44-year-old man in the kidnapping of his young daughter and the attempted murder of the girl's mother last week, officers said Thursday.

Detectives took Jose Luis Valencia into custody and booked him into the Santa Clara County Jail, according to Capt. Jeff Hunter.

Police caught up with Valencia at a location in Santa Clara County, based on information provided by his family, and arrested him without incident, Hunter said.

He is the suspect in the kidnapping of his 8-year-old daughter and the stabbing of the child's 33-year-old mother, public safety officers said.

At 9:49 p.m. last Thursday, officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 500 block of North Britton Avenue.

Officers discovered a woman with stab wounds and learned that her 8-year-old daughter had been abducted, according to public safety officers.

Authorities issued an Amber Alert and began searching for the girl and for Valencia.

The stabbing victim, who was the suspect's estranged girlfriend, was transported to the hospital.

Members of Valencia's family informed investigators where the girl was and arranged to have her brought to police headquarters about three hours after the abduction.

The girl was unharmed and was later reunited with her mother, who has since been released from the hospital, public safety officers said.
