Suspect In Shooting Rampage That Killed 2 Sacramento Deputies Was Twice-Deported Drug Criminal
SACRAMENTO (CBS) -- There are new details about the man suspected of killing two deputies in the Sacramento area.
The suspect told police his name was Marcelo Marquez from Salt Lake City, but after running his fingerprints federal authorities found out he's really Luis Enrique Monroy-Bracamonte.
He's been deported to Mexico twice. He also has a drug conviction.
This information comes as we're learning more about the men who died in the line of duty.
The body of Deputy Michael Davis, Jr. was taken to a mortuary in Roseville, Saturday afternoon.
The procession of police cars was greeted by people lining the street holding flags.
Davis leaves behind a wife and four children.
The deadly shooting has shaken the tight-knit law enforcement community.
"Today we grieve as a family, and tomorrow, we will start healing as a family," said Deputy… of the Sacramento Sheriff's Department.
Placer County Sheriff's Detective Michael David Davis, Jr. was a second generation officer. He died 26 years to the day that his father, was killed in the line of duty.
Also killed was 47-year-old Deputy Danny Oliver. He was father of two.
Davis was shot to death by an assault rifle as he approached a suspicious car in a hotel parking lot.
Police say the 2 suspects inside took off, shooting and seriously wounding another person in an attempted carjacking.
A shooting rampage and manhunt continued for six hours.
The suspects were booked early Saturday morning on two counts of murder, two counts attempted murder and carjacking. Sheriff's officials say the chances either suspect will be released are slim.
