Suspect In Custody Following Series Of Oakland Robberies
OAKLAND (KCBS) – Oakland police have a person of interest in custody in connection with a series of robberies near a Safeway store in the Oakland Hills.
Police said five times in the last month, older women at the store on Redwood Road have been targeted by a robber.
"It appears that the suspect is waiting in the Safeway parking lot and identifying certain women, elderly women," said Oakland police spokeswoman Cynthia Perkins. "He's following them to their residence and he's taking their purses, personal items and things of that nature."
KCBS' Anna Duckworth Reports:
Perkins said surveillance camera footage helped police identify and catch one suspect, but they're still looking to see if others are involved. Shoppers said they will continue to take precautions.
"I'm definitely a lot more cautious," said one shopper. "Just looking around and making sure that I'm not being followed. If I were followed, I would drive around the block or not go straight to my house."
Police are continuing with increased patrols in the area.
