Suspect Chase Prompts San Jose School Shelter Warning

SAN JOSE (BCN) - A residential burglary in South San Jose prompted students and staff at a nearby middle school to shelter in place Thursday afternoon, a police spokesman said.

Police received a report at about 12:25 p.m. of a possible burglary at a home in the 4900 block of Eberly Drive, Officer Jose Garcia said.

When officers arrived, they saw two men running away. They caught one and arrested him on suspicion of burglary. Officers were not able to find the second man, Garcia said.

Students at Davis Intermediate School, which is in the same block as the house, sheltered in place voluntarily while police searched the neighborhood, Garcia said. Police have since suspended the search.

Garcia did not have the name of the man arrested because he has not yet been booked into jail, but said he is in his 20s.
