Suppan, Belt Lead Giants To Cactus League Win
SCOTTSDALE (AP) - Jeff Suppan pitched three scoreless innings against his former Brewers teammates for the second time this spring training, and rookie Brandon Belt hit a two-run homer Friday to lead a San Francisco Giants' split squad over Milwaukee 7-2.
Suppan retired nine straight batters, allowing one hit—to Erick Almonte in the first—and striking out two in his first exhibition start. He previous appearance against the Brewers was in relief.
He is competing for the No. 5 spot in the Giants' rotation.
Belt, projected as a future starting first baseman, hit his first homer of spring training in a five-run first, a drove off sidearming right-hander Tim Dillard. Belt also singled in the third.
Brewers closer John Axford saw his first action of the spring training following food poisoning. He allowed two hits in a scoreless fourth.
