'Supernatural' Star Jared Padalecki Touched By Comic-Con Tribute For His Candid Discussion Of Depression
Earlier this year, "Supernatural" star Jared Padalecki shared a very personal detail about his life: he told the public about his battles with depression.
The actor, who is married to San Francisco native (and former "Supernatural" co-star) Genevieve Nicole Cortese, in the Spring told Variety magazine that living with depression is a daily battle. "I say constantly that there's no shame in dealing with these things," he said. "There's no shame in having to fight every day, but fighting every day, and presumably, if you're still alive to hear these words or read this interview, then you are winning your war. You're here."
Now, in one of his first public appearances since his event cancellations in May, Padalecki returned to the spotlight to speak at Comic-Con in San Diego, where he was met with an unexpected (but welcome) surprise.
Over 7,000 attendees who attended the "Supernatural" panel lit candles in honor of Padalecki's candid discussion of his own battles and his "Always Keep Fighting" campaign, which raises money on behalf of the organization To Write Love On Her Arms.
The message he sent on Twitter gave a view of what he saw from the stage.
Afterwards, the actor took to both Facebook and Twitter to write a thank you to everyone involved.
"Sitting on that stage in Hall H, I initially mistook all of the lights for cell phone cameras. It's difficult to discern specific shapes and faces with all of those stage lights shining on you (and, it's quite intimidating up there, sitting in front of 6,500 people!!)," as it read on Facebook. "Then, when I had a light given to me with an explanation of what it was and what it stood for, I was (and am still) gob-smacked."
"Thank you. From the very bottom of my heart and my soul, thank you so much."
