Super Bowl 50 Already Funding Bay Area Charities, 2 Days Left To Get In On First $500,000 Grants
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Super Bowl 50 next year at Levi's Stadium may be 347 days away, but the charity fund that the organizing committee hopes will be the lasting legacy of the game is well-funded already, so much so that it's looking for five local non-profits that will receive grants of up to half a million dollars. The deadline to apply for this current round is Saturday, January 31st, 2015.
The Gamechanger Grants give money to organizations that close the "opportunity gap" for local children and youth in low-income opportunities.

"When we invest in young people, their families and the communities they live in, we invest in the future of the Bay Area," said Daniel Lurie, Chairman of the Host Committee.
"We see Super Bowl 50 as a powerful catalyst for our region and an important opportunity to not just unite our communities, but also lift them up."
Additional funding for organizations will be given out in various stages next month and all year leading up to Super Bowl 50.
The next round will be the Play Maker grants, helping jumpstart smaller organizations with grants of up to $10,000 given out each week. Applications open on February 3rd, 2015 for those.
"We're committing 25% of all monies we raise for Super Bowl 50 to be invested back in Bay Area communities so we can leave a legacy from this game," said Jason Trimiew, VP of Community Relations for the Host Committee.
"But we're not just focused on how much we can give, but also how we can use this opportunity to showcase the innovative work of Bay Area nonprofits and how they are creating lasting impact."
There are so many people supporting the 50 Fund that the committee produced a commercial to air Sunday during Super Bowl XLIX, and then, they produced a TRAILER for that commercial.
