Sunnyvale Dad Arrested At Border After Amber Alert Abduction; Son Safe
SUNNYVALE (CBS SF) -- An Amber Alert has been called off following the arrest of a Sunnyvale dad accused of abducting his infant son Tuesday, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
One-month-old Henry Guler-Romero was taken from an apartment complex in the 900 block of Helen Avenue around 4 p.m. Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The baby's father, 22-year-old Mesut Guler, was believed to have taken the baby, the CHP said.
Sunnyvale's Department of Public Safety confirmed Wednesday evening that Guler was arrested by Mexican authorities and his two week-old son was recovered unharmed.
"Guler was reportedly stopped at a checkpoint in Mexico and questioned by Mexican authorities. The Mexican authorities contacted U. S. Border Patrol Agents in Lukeville, Arizona, at which point the U. S. Border Patrol Agents discovered the warrant for Guler's arrest," read the release.
The infant was being returned to U.S. authorities Wednesday.
According to an earlier CHP statement, Guler had told his wife he was taking the baby to New York and that Guler threatened to kill himself and his child if police were notified.

Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Capt. Dave Pitts said the abduction appears to have stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Guler and his girlfriend over his desire to move out of state.
"She did not want to, and then that led to him taking the child," Pitts said.
He said Guler had wanted to move "back to New York."
Guler has previously threatened to harm himself and the baby, police said.
Police worked with the FBI and the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office on the investigation, he said.
