San Francisco's StubHub To Sponsor Ads On 76ers Jerseys
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – The Philadelphia 76ers and San Francisco-based online ticket marketplace StubHub have reached a jersey sponsorship agreement, the first-such deal among the four major North American men's professional sports leagues.
Under the agreement, patches with the StubHub logo will appear on jerseys worn by 76ers players during home games, starting in the 2017-18 season. Terms of the deal were not announced.
Last month, the NBA Board of Governors approved jersey sponsorships as part of a pilot program.
"Since day one, StubHub has been a pioneer and innovator within the live entertainment ecosystem and we could not be more excited to join the Philadelphia 76ers in making history with this ground-breaking partnership," StubHub President Scott Cutler said in a statement.
Before announcing the jersey sponsorship deal, StubHub became the team's official ticketing partner earlier this year.
While the NBA, NFL, NHL and Major League Baseball have resisted jersey sponsorships, the practice is common among soccer clubs worldwide. The San Jose Earthquakes MLS team currently has a sponsorship deal with Sutter Health.
The 76ers ended the season with the worst record in the NBA, with 10 wins and 72 losses.
