Asians Victimized In String Of San Leandro Street Robberies
SAN LEANRDO (CBS SF) - Detectives in San Leandro are investigating a string of street robberies that occurred over the past three weeks that may be related, a police sergeant said.
The victims—three Asian women and two Asian men between 40 and 60 years old—were robbed of their purses, wallets, and other personal items while walking alone in each of the five robberies, Sgt. Doug Calcagno said.
Calcagno said two to four black men are suspects in each incident, although the vehicle descriptions vary and include a black four-door Lexus and a white four-door Camry.
The first incident occurred on July 14 near the intersection of Louise Street and Betty Avenue.
On July 30, three incidents occurred between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. in the 1900 block of Lewelling Boulevard, near Clarke and Parrot streets, and in the 15200 block of Hesperian Boulevard.
Vehicle descriptions similar to the Lexus were described in each incident, and Calcagno said there is "no doubt" they are the same suspects.
The fifth robbery occurred in the 100 block of Durant Avenue on Tuesday.
Several of the victims were knocked to the ground but no one was seriously injured during the robberies, Calcagno said.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at (510) 577-3237.
