Stoplight Installed At Deadly San Francisco Intersection
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A new stoplight was turned on Friday at an intersection in San Francisco's Mission Terrace neighborhood where a college student was fatally struck in 2008, according to the office of Supervisor John Avalos.
Stacey Krause, a 20-year-old San Francisco State University student, was fatally struck while walking in a crosswalk at the intersection of Alemany Boulevard and San Juan Avenue on the night of Oct. 9, 2008.
The death prompted Active Leadership to Advance the Youth, a community group representing youth in the area, to call for safety improvements in the area, including a stoplight at the intersection where Krause was struck, according to Avalos' office.
Avalos joined San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency director Ed Reiskin and members of the community Friday afternoon to commemorate Krause's life and dedicate the new stoplight in her memory.
"Losing one life is one too many when it comes to pedestrian and traffic safety," Avalos said in a statement Thursday. "I am thankful for the community leadership from our youth to ensure that the tragic incident of Stacey's death was not in vain."
