Thief Steals San Francisco Ambulance, Crashes At Treasure Island
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A thief stole an ambulance in downtown San Francisco Tuesday morning, leading police on a chase on the Bay Bridge before crashing, according to authorities.
According to police, the ambulance was responding to a 911 call at a building on 55 Mason Street around 8:00 a.m. While paramedics were attending to a person inside a building, a thief jumped into the vehicle and drove off.
Police were able to track the ambulance with the vehicle's GPS. The ambulance led authorities on a chase to the Bay Bridge heading east, where the ambulance crashed and caught fire at the Treasure Island off-ramp.
The suspect has been taken into custody. It is unclear if the suspect was injured.
Authorities opened the off-ramp around 10:00 a.m.
