Stolen Car Smashes Into San Jose Power Pole; Driver Flees
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Roughly 3,500 PG&E customers were left without power when a car crashed into a power pole in San Jose Tuesday morning, a utility spokeswoman said.
The car hit the pole around 5:20 a.m. in the area of Almaden Expressway and San Jose Avenue, according a fire dispatcher.
The accident knocked out power in the area, PG&E spokeswoman Monica Tell said.
Within an hour and a half, 300 customers had their power restored, Tell said. By 7:04 a.m., another 2,800 were restored, she said.
Only 39 customers were still without power late Tuesday morning, but Tell said they were expected to have their power back Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the vehicle was stolen, and the driver fled the scene. There were no injuries reported.
