Steve Jobs Memorial Pulled Down In Russia After Tim Cook Comes Out As Gay
CUPERTINO (CBS SF) - A tribute to Apple CEO Steve Jobs has been removed from a college in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
The six foot statue of an iPhone was originally put up as memorial to Jobs, but it was hastily removed last week by four men just a day after current Apple CEO Tim Cook formally came out as gay, reports CBS News.
ZEFS, a corporate consortium that had sponsored the tribute, released a statement following the removal:
"Russian legislation prohibits propaganda of homosexuality and other sexual perversions among minors...Tim Cook has publicly called for sodomy," reads the report, although he has done nothing of the sort, reports CBS News' Elizabeth Palmer.
Just a day earlier a profile was released in which Cook told Bloomberg Business Week that he was "proud to be gay."
The conflict stems from laws passed more than a year ago that outlaw "nontraditional sexual relationships." The laws were the political flash point leading up to the Sochi Olympics. Now they apparently put the government at odds with a Silicon Valley heavyweight.
