State Senator Yee To Announce Run For San Francisco Mayor
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) – CBS 5 has learned that State Senator Leland Yee will announce Wednesday morning that he is running for mayor in next November's general election.
Senator Yee has scheduled a 10:30 a.m. news conference at the elections office at San Francisco City Hall. A spokesman for Yee said the senator had no comment and would let tomorrow's news conference speak for itself.
Yee has held state office since 2002. He represents the 8th State Senate district, which covers parts of San Francisco and San Mateo Counties. Yee was a San Francisco Supervisor and school board member for two decades before that.
Yee has a PhD in Child Psychology and has been an advocate for restrictions on violent video game sales to children. Recently, he has pushed for more transparency on the part of the University of California system's finances.
