'Star Wars' 3D Prequels Postponed To Focus On 'Episode VII'
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS NEWS) - It seems Lucasfilm wants to make sure the force is as strong as possible when it comes to the upcoming "Star Wars" sequel.
The San Francisco-based film studio's attention has lately been centered on "Star Wars: Episode VII," now in pre-production, and other projects have had to be pushed back as a result.
In a statement released Monday, Lucasfilm said that it's postponing the scheduled 3-D releases of "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack Of The Clones" and "Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" this fall to instead focus its efforts behind "Episode VII."
The original prequels were released from 1999 to 2005.
"Episode I - The Phantom Menace" was released in 3-D last February and earned $22.4 million domestically its opening weekend.
Disney recently purchased "Star Wars" maker Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion.
The Walt Disney Co. confirmed Friday that J.J. Abrams, creator of the TV series "Lost" and director of 2009's "Star Trek" movie, will direct the seventh installment of the franchise, set for a 2015 release.
