Star-Studded Tribute To Star Wars Creator George Lucas At Kennedy Center Honors
WASHINGTON (CBS SF) -- There was a star-studded tribute to filmmaker George Lucas at the Kennedy Center Honors Sunday night in Washington D.C.
The Star Wars creator, along with four others was feted for his contribution to American culture through the arts.
Carrie Fischer, Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorcese were on hand to speak about Lucas' technological achievements and gift for storytelling.
His wife, CBS contributor Mellody Hobson told the audience why she thinks her husband's movies are still relevant.
"I think George's movies have stayed and grown in our hearts for the last 40 yhears because the stories are so simple and yet at the same time so profound," she said. "George's movies have soul."
The Lucases are residents of San Anselmo.
Another Bay Area resident, Rita Moreno was honored, along with conductor Seiji Ozwa, actress Cicely Tyson, and singer Carole King.
Singer Aretha Franklin received a standing ovation when she closed the show with Carole King's, 'Natural Woman,' a track that became a signature song for R & B's 'Queen of Soul.'
The Kennedy Center Honors will air on KPIX 5 on December 29th at 9:00 p.m.
