Stanford's Ogwumike Expected To Play Thursday

STANFORD (CBS / AP) ― Reigning Pac-10 Player of the Year Nnemkadi Ogwumike was expected to play for the No. 4 Stanford women's basketball team in its home game Thursday night against Arizona after being tested for concussion-like symptoms.

A preseason All-America pick, the 6-foot-2 junior forward and Stanford's second-leading scorer landed on her shoulder in the second half of Sunday's 78-45 rout of rival California. Although her head didn't hit the ground, she was experiencing headaches right after the fall.

Coach Tara VanDerveer said Ogwumike was held out of practice Tuesday -- she was limited to non-contact activities such as riding the stationary bike -- but the coach hoped to have her at full strength for Wednesday's workout.

"She was fine," VanDerveer said. "She is having no headaches. She's doing well."

Ogwumike is averaging 16.6 points and a team-leading 8.5 rebounds for Stanford (10-2, 1-0 Pac-10), which snapped Connecticut's NCAA record 90-game winning streak with a 71-59 win at Maples Pavilion last Thursday night for its 52nd straight victory at home.

The Cardinal, coming off a third straight trip to the Final Four and an NCAA runner-up finish to UConn, are seeking their 11th straight conference crown. They play Arizona State at home Saturday.
