Stanford Grad Student Killed in Yosemite Fall

The Yosemite climbing community is mourning the death of a respected outdoors enthusiast. Stanford University grad student Christina Chan fell to her death from the north face of Eichhorn Pinnacle last Friday.

Kari Cobb, spokeswoman for Yosemite National Park, tells KCBS that Chan was "soloing" meaning climbing the peak without ropes and had in fact made it to the top earlier in the day. She was on her way back down when she slipped for unknown reasons, falling 300 ft. to her death.

Eichhorn Pinnacle is commonly "soloed" and is considered an easier route.

Chan was well known in Yosemite Valley as an experienced climber, who had climbed on El Capitan, one of the harder Yosemite peaks, multiple times. She spent many of her weekends teaching people about rock-climbing.
Chan was a 4th year grad student in political science.

Funeral services are pending.
