Stanford Employee Arrested In Palo Alto Burglary
PALO ALTO (BCN) - Police arrested a Stanford University employee Tuesday in connection with the burglary of an occupied home in Palo Alto earlier this month, a police lieutenant said.
Detectives arrested Jose Luis Fernandez, 20, of East Palo Alto, on suspicion of a burglary that occurred in the 1100 block of Hamilton Avenue on Oct. 8, according to police Lt. Sandra Brown.
Detectives believe Fernandez entered the home through an open window and snatched several personal items, including the keys to the family's Volkswagen, as they slept.
He allegedly fled in the Volkswagen, but officers later recovered the car in the 1200 block of Woodland Avenue in Menlo Park.
Fernandez was taken into custody at Stanford University at about 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, Brown said. He works at a university dining hall.
He was booked into Santa Clara County jail on one count of burglary, one count of the unlawful taking of a vehicle, and a probation hold.
He is on felony probation for burglary and the unauthorized use of an access card, Brown said.
