Police Spokesman, Officer Gordon Shyy said the 43-year-old male victim was treated by church staff members until paramedics arrived. He was then taken to San Francisco General Hospital with non-life threatening injures.
Lowery was apprehended on a Muni bus near Market and 6th Street after he fled the scene, not far from the church and is in now in police custody.
He was booked into jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest and an outstanding warrant.
Glide has been known for its charitable social services for more than 80 years and is well known throughout the community for serving 850,000 meals a year to those in need.
Despite this rare occurrence, the line was wrapped around the block for people in need of outreach still waiting to receive a free meal.
"We are saddened by this occurrence and we continue to be committed to making our environment safe and welcoming as we serve San Francisco's most vulnerable communities," Glide officials said in a statement Monday.
