Spurs Players Spooked By Sound Of Baby Inside Claremont Hotel Room
BERKELEY (CBS SF) - Two members of the San Antonio Spurs say they're at a loss to explain strange noises they heard inside a room at Berkeley's Claremont hotel while in town to play the Golden State Warriors last weekend.
Jeff Ayres and Tim Duncan shared their odd encounter with the blog Spurs Nation:
"I get to my door, and my key doesn't work, but it sounds like there's somebody in my room. Like I hear a little baby, not crying but making noise. I'm like, 'What the heck?'" Ayres told the blog. "It was the creepiest thing. I heard a couple of other guys heard babies in the hallway, kids running down the hallway. Creepy. I really heard voices and a baby in the room, and there wasn't anybody in there. It was crazy."
Ayers went to the front desk. Nobody answered calls to the room, which should have been vacant. He was moved to a different room.
"I totally agreed with him," said Duncan. "There was a baby there, absolutely. I heard about the history of the place, and I'd rather not (stay there again)."
The "history" is largely rumors of ghosts and other unexplained events at the historic hotel. Among the most popular accounts are the haunting of a six-year-old girl who died on the property years ago and reports of unexplained smoke coming from non-smoking rooms.
The spooking apparently didn't throw off the team's game too much. They went on to beat the Warriors 99-90.
Apparently the Spurs aren't the only athletes to report the problem, according to former Cowboy linebacker Dat Nguyen.
In 2012, members of the visiting New York Knicks made headlines when they made ghost sighting claims about an Oklahoma City hotel.
