Things Heating Up More Than Ever Before At Spring Training In Arizona
KPIX 5 Morning Weather Anchor Roberta Gonzales answers the questions you never get to ask on-air.
Q: Roberta, what's the weather like for Spring Training in Arizona? - Marc Chatow
A: It's warming up for the "Boys Of Summer!"
Every February, The San Francisco Giants gather for Spring Training at their home Park in Scottsdale, Arizona. In 1977, the A's opened the newly built Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Arizona. Fast forward to 37 years later, our A's return to Hohokam, this time with a renovated state of the art facility in the heart of Mesa. Meanwhile, greeting Giants and A's faithful is record warm temperatures. This past February was the 2nd warmest February in the Phoenix and surrounding suburban areas. Also quite notable, the overnight Low-average was the WARMEST EVER RECORDED!
March is turning out to be NO different, as the Sonoran desert towns of Scottsdale and Mesa we will be flirting with 90 degrees by this upcoming weekend. Normal highs for the Greater Phoenix Area for early/mid-March is 76 degrees. Instead, this weekend the Giants will travel to Hohokam Stadium and face the A's at 1:05pm with an expected high temperature near 87 degrees.
For those traveling to watch our local teams, don't forget the sunblock and your favorite baseball hat! And give our Boys of Summer an extra cheer for me! By the way, who are you cheering for? Bruce Bochy and the Giants or Bob Melvin and the Athletics? Sound off here! And maybe I will tell you who I am rooting for!
