Special Needs Students, Teacher Hit By Car That Drove Onto Sidewalk Near San Mateo Hillsdale Mall
SAN MATEO (CBS SF) -- Four pedestrians walking along a sidewalk were hit by a car along a San Mateo street Wednesday morning near Hillsdale Mall.
Police reported the collision at 11:17 a.m. in the 300 block of West Hillsdale Boulevard.
Three special needs teenagers and an adult woman student teacher were apparently hit from behind by a black Acura as they walked on the sidewalk. The car then hit a pole, according to police.
All four pedestrians were hospitalized as was the driver, a man in his 50s, police said.

In an email, San Mateo Police Sgt. Rick Decker said the four pedestrians were stable with injuries that were not life-threatening. The adult female suffered head trauma and broken bones while the three teenagers suffered various abrasions, lacerations and other minor injuries, said Decker.
The driver also suffered non life threatening injuries and the investigation was continuing, said Decker.
A San Mateo County School District spokesperson said the pedestrians were with a group of about a dozen special needs high school students from Hillsdale High School on their daily walk.
It was not clear what caused the driver to veer onto the sidewalk.
