Southwest Airlines Adds Flights At Mineta San Jose As Airport Named 2nd Fastest-Growing In U.S.
SAN JOSE (KCBS) — Southwest Airlines began expanded service on from Mineta San José International Airport on Tuesday adding one daily nonstop flight to Denver, San Diego, Seattle and Orange County due to an increasing demand that's led SJC to become one of the fastest growing hubs in the U.S.
The added frequency, which was announced by Southwest last November, brings the daily flight schedule to Denver to four, 10 daily flights to San Diego, three to Seattle and nine to Orange County.
SJC spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes told KCBS the increase is due the changing needs of Silicon Valley. "There has been an ever increasing demand and we're glad to see that the airlines are responding." Barnes said.
According to Anna.aero, a weekly e-journal and website devoted to global airline and airport network planning issues, SJC was the named the second fastest-growing medium-sized airport last year.
"San Jose Airport had significant growth in 2013 because of both new international as well as domestic service," Barnes said.
Barnes credits All Nippon Airways (ANA) newly daily-nonstop flights to Tokyo—SJC's first overseas service in years.

With less congestion than San Francisco International Airport, travelers can also rely on the favorable year-round weather to keep arriving and departing flights on time.
Despite Virgin America terminating its service, only after a year, from of SJC last month claiming that passenger growth wasn't fast enough, the airport hopes to grow even more with the goal of adding more overseas flights as well as service to the East Coast.
