Southbay Officer Allegedly Gave Info To Gang To Settle Debt
SAN JOSE (CBS/AP) – A Santa Clara police officer is facing federal criminal charges for allegedly passing on confidential information to a Hells Angels member to settle a debt.
The San Jose Mercury News reports that an indictment unsealed Monday in federal court in San Jose charges 36-year-old Clay Rojas with fraud and conspiracy.
The indictment alleges that Rojas supplied insider information, such as criminal and motor vehicle records, to William, a suspected member of the motorcycle gang.
It claims Bettencourt had loaned Rojas money, and Rojas was using the confidential information as a form of payment.
The federal charges come on top of state charges filed against Rojas in October. Bettencourt also is in jail and faces related state charges.
