South Bay Teachers, Students Head To Sacramento To Lobby For Education Funds
SAN JOSE (KCBS) — About 100 students and teachers headed from San Jose to Sacramento on a pair of tour buses Wednesday morning to gather support for cash-strapped schools.
Bob Weeks with the non-profit Carry The Vision, quoted an old Chinese proverb as his pitch for support to California lawmakers.
"If your plan is for one year— plant rice, if your plan is for 10 years— plant trees. If your plan is for 100 years, educate people," Weeks said.
This is the tenth year Santa Clara County Supervisor Dave Cortese organized this bus trip. He said it does get noticed by members of the Assembly and Senate.
KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:
"They hear a lot from professional lobbyists, so anytime you come up with busloads of people who represent a larger community like this, it does have an affect," Cortese said.
Nonetheless education faces deeper cuts as lawmakers and the Governor Brown work out a spending plan for the next year.
