South Bay Labor Leaders Push For Higher Paying Jobs At 49ers' Levi's Stadium
SANTA CLARA (KCBS)— Labor leaders in the South Bay are pushing for more high-paying jobs at the 49ers' new stadium in Santa Clara. The ribbon cutting for the $1.2 billion Levi's Stadium is scheduled for Thursday, but talks about the types of jobs it will bring continues.
The facility is expected to create about 12,000 jobs (including 7,800 in construction), leaving over 4,000 positions, mostly for service workers. Those jobs are likely to pay anywhere from $13 to $26 an hour.
"The promise was that the niners' stadium was going to bring good quality jobs. I think the jury is really still out about whether that's going to happen," said South Bay Labor Council executive Officer, Ben Field.
Field said his organization is continuing to talk to the 49ers. "Some of the jobs there are going to be good quality jobs, but not as many as we should have," Field said.

Center Plate will handle food and beverage service at the stadium and has told the Bay Area News Group that the response for jobs so far has reflected the diversity of the area. The company also said feedback has mostly been positive so far.
The 49ers were asked to comment on this story, but have yet to respond.
