Sonoma Youth Soccer President Faces Jail For Stealing From League
SANTA ROSA (BCN) - Healdsburg Youth Soccer League president and treasurer Kyle Joseph Hoffmann has pleaded no contest to stealing $53,000 from the league over a three-year period, Sonoma County District Attorney Jill Ravitch said.
Hoffmann, 38, of Healdsburg, pleaded no contest Monday in Sonoma County Superior Court to three felony counts of grand theft, Ravitch said.
The thefts involved 70 fraudulent transactions between 2008 and 2010, Ravitch said.
Hoffmann faces nine months in jail and three years' probation when he is sentenced by Judge Kenneth Gnoss on Aug. 17, Ravitch said.
He could receive less jail time if he makes substantial restitution payments before the start of the soccer season and his sentencing date, Ravitch said.
Any restitution payments will be put in a fund for children who cannot afford to play soccer in the league, Healdsburg Youth Soccer League President Mitzi Giron said.
The league serves 300 boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 18 in Healdsburg, Geyserville and Alexander Valley.
Healdsburg Youth Soccer League board members began investigating Hoffmann in August 2010 after several of the league's checks were returned for insufficient funds, Ravitch said.
Healdsburg police served search warrants on Hoffmann's home and several banks during their investigation.
