Sonoma Teen Arrested Following Gang-Related Road Rage Incident
SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- A gang-related road rage incident led to the arrest of an unlicensed 17-year-old Santa Rosa boy for resisting arrest and evading officers in Sonoma County on Sunday night, the California Highway Patrol said.
The CHP responded around 8 p.m. to a road rage incident on Bodega Avenue at Eastman Lane just west of Petaluma, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.
The victim, also a 17-year-old boy, said he was on the beach in Bodega Bay when another juvenile asked him if he "banged" and challenged him to a fight, according to Sloat.
The victim left the beach in his car but the teen suspect tailed him in a Honda Accord, Sloat said. The suspect swerved toward the victim's vehicle, cut him off and tried to get him to stop.
Sloat said the suspect allegedly pulled to the right shoulder of Bodega Avenue and threw a small baseball bat, breaking the victim's windshield as he passed.
The CHP officer spotted the Honda traveling east on Bodega Avenue near Middle Two Rock Road. The driver yielded to the right shoulder, Sloat said.
When the CHP officer got out of the patrol car, the Honda sped away and committed multiple moving violations on eastbound Bodega Avenue, according to Sloat.
The Honda driver eventually pulled to the shoulder and lay face down on the ground, Sloat said.
The CHP officer handcuffed the driver and as he searched him for weapons, the driver tried to flee but was restrained, Sloat said.
The suspect was not intoxicated, but was arrested for evading officers, resisting arrest, being a minor in possession of alcohol and driving without a license, Sloat said.
