Sonoma County DUI Stop Turns Into Fight With Officer
WINDSOR (CBS SF) - A California Highway Patrol officer detained a Santa Rosa man suspected of DUI Tuesday after he allegedly fought the officer and resisted arrest, according to the CHP.
CHP motorcycle Officer Robert Powers responded to a crash on southbound U.S. Highway 101, north of Shiloh Road, in Sonoma County at around 6:20 a.m.
Powers found a 1996 Toyota Camry that had driven off the road, according to the CHP.
CHP officials said Maurer was non-responsive to questions and kept trying to walk away from the scene.
Maurer then allegedly took a fighting stance, according to the CHP.
Powers tried to restrain Maurer who allegedly continued to resist arrest. CHP officials said the struggle continued until an off-duty Sonoma County Sheriff's Office deputy and deputies with the Windsor police arrived to help.
Maurer was taken to Sonoma County Jail where CHP officials said he continued to fight with jail staff.
Maurer is facing charges of DUI and resisting an officer.
