Some Homeowners Rolling Dice, Deciding Not To Evacuate Homes In Napa County Wildfire Area
ST. HELENA (CBS SF) -- While evacuation orders are in effect for hundreds of homes in the potential path of the Butts fire burning in the Pope Valley area of Napa County, but not all homeowners are leaving.
Firefighters worked through the night to battle the vegetation fire in Butts Canyon that has rapidly spread to 3,800 acres.
The fire, just west of Lake Berryessa, was 30 percent suppressed as of Wednesday afternoon after fire crews built containment lines through the night.
But some homeowners are rolling the dice, deciding not to evacuate.
"That's it, I decided to stay," homeowner Ron Priest told KPIX 5.
Wendy Barron has been checking the hillside constantly.
"Very unnerving when you consider our house is on the other side of the hill. It is very frightening," she said.
Pope Valley resident Bill Gardner says he's ready to leave, just not willing.
"It does concern me right now. The wind is blowing in the wrong direction, and it's beginning to come back here," he said.
Four structures and one home have been burned in the fire.
