Solano County Law Enforcement Holding Gun Buyback In Vallejo
VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- Solano County law enforcement agencies are holding a gun buyback between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday at the Solano County Fairgrounds in Vallejo.
The goal is to get illegal and unwanted guns off the streets as soon as possible, Vallejo police Chief Joseph Kreins said.
Participants will be paid $100 in cash or gift card for handguns, shotguns and rifles in working condition and $200 for weapons that are classified as assault weapons by the state of California.
Funds are limited and subject to availability, and there may be a limit on the amount of money an individual will receive regardless of how many guns are surrendered.
The guns should be transported to the buyback at 900 Fairgrounds Drive unlocked and in the trunk of a vehicle.
Donations to the fund to pay for the returned guns are tax deductible. Checks should be made payable to the Vallejo Police Department and should include "2013 Gun Buyback" written in the memo section of the check.
Checks may be mailed to the Vallejo Police Department at 111 Amador St., Vallejo, CA 94590.
Cash donations also will be accepted and a receipt will be provided.
