SoCal State Senator Subpoenaed By Grand Jury
SACRAMENTO (CBS/AP) -- A state senator from Southern California confirmed that he has been subpoenaed by a federal grand jury, days after another senator's Capitol offices were searched by the FBI.
Democratic Sen. Kevin de Leon of Los Angeles said in a statement Friday that he had been served with the subpoena on Thursday. His chief of staff, Dan Reeves, said de Leon has been told he is not a target of the investigation.
The subpoena came two days after the FBI raided two Sacramento offices assigned to Sen. Ron Calderon, a Democrat from Montebello. It was not clear that the two developments were linked.
Neither the FBI nor U.S. Attorney's Office would comment.
Rhys Williams, a spokesman for Senate Democrats, said he was unaware of any other senators being served with subpoenas.
