More Workplace Smartphones Used For Personal Time, Porn
SAN JOSE (KCBS) – Using a smart phone to check personal email is just the beginning, as more and more Americans are using their digital devices to get in a little 'me time' while at work.
A new survey conducted by Harris Interactive and commissioned by Qumu, a San Bruno software firm that develops video tools for businesses, finds that 25 percent of people admit to watching news clips while at work, 15 percent are watching viral videos, and three percent even admit to watching porn. The survey finds that Americans are doing things on their smartphones they would never do on their office computer.
"I did have to delete a 'Words With Friends' game because it was taking up too much of my time," said Brooks Masterson, a high tech worker in Silicon Valley.
KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:
Besides lost productivity, there's a major downside to all this smartphone use at work: clogged bandwidth. In many cases, workers are tapping into the company's WiFi Internet, which could potentially harm the entire network.
