Small Quakes Shake Parts Of South Bay

A pair of small quakes shook parts of Santa Clara and Alameda counties Wednesday night.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.1 struck at 10:13 p.m. originating from the Calaveras Fault and shook an area in the east foothills just north of the Cherry Flat Reservoir.

The quake, which had a depth of 4.2 miles, was centered about 9 miles east-northeast from San Jose City Hall, according to the USGS.

Earlier Wednesday, the USGS reported an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.1 shook an area in Fremont near Ohlone College at 9:27 p.m.

The temblor originating from the Hayward Fault and had a depth of 8.6 miles, with the epicenter located near Pine and Bryant streets in Fremont, according to the USGS.
