Skateboarder Injured In Hit-And-Run Near Martinez

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY (BCN) -- An 18-year-old skateboarder who was injured in a hit-and-run Sunday in unincorporated Contra Costa County near Martinez has been identified by the California Highway Patrol.

Lafayette resident Wayne Grace was riding his skateboard west on Martinez Avenue at 3:16 p.m. when he was struck in the intersection by a pickup truck headed south on Shell Avenue, CHP Officer Tom Maguire said.

Grace, who suffered lacerations to his face, wasn't wearing a helmet and was not in the crosswalk, Maguire said.

Grace was talking and able to walk, Maguire said, and his injuries are not considered to be life threatening. He was treated at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

The CHP was still on the lookout Monday for the suspect's vehicle, a red 2002 Chevy Silverado with 24-inch silver rims. The pickup was damaged on the front left side.

Anyone with more information about this incident is asked to contact the CHP at (925) 646-4980.
