SJPD Makes Two New Arrests In Teen's Stabbing Death

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - San Jose police announced two additional arrests Friday in the murder of 18-year-old Vincent Tran Le two months ago.

Edwin Oliva, 28, and Francisco Pulido Garcia, 19, were arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing Le on May 28 in the 1700 block of Schulte Drive.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office has charged Oliva and Garcia with murder. A third suspect, 24-year-old Juan Carlos Cortez Reyes, who was arrested on June 30, has also been charged with murder.

All three suspects are San Jose residents.

The three are suspected of stabbing Le during an altercation

between two rival gangs. Gang-related slogans and hand gestures were exchanged during and before the altercation, witnesses told police.

Police believe Le was affiliated with one of the gangs.

An investigation revealed Le had been stabbed during a similar gang-related altercation May 1 in the same area as the more recent stabbing.

The motive for the altercation that led to his death remains under investigation.

Oliva is currently in custody at Santa Rita Jail on a separate charge, according to Lisa McCrary, a spokeswoman for the district attorney's office.

Garcia and Reyes are in custody at Santa Clara County Jail. Garcia is scheduled for a plea entry hearing on Monday and Reyes is expected to enter a plea on Aug. 15.
