SJ City College Arts Center Named For Lottery Winning Philanthropist
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - San Jose City College was holding a ceremony to officially name its new fine arts center after a local philanthropist Thursday afternoon.
The center is being named after Carmen Castellano, a former longtime college employee who loved the arts.
Castellano worked at San Jose City College for 33 years before winning the lottery and forming a charitable foundation with her husband Alcario, according to the school.
Since then, Castellano and her husband have directed much of their philanthropy toward the local community.
"We are proud to be honoring a former employee and community member that has had such a significant impact on San Jose City College," college president Barbara Kavalier said.
The public event was held at 2100 Moorpark Ave. and will included a musical performance by Castellano's son and San Jose City College music professor Armando Castellano.
