Silicon Valley's VTA Expands Bus & Light Rail Service Without Increasing Fares
SAN JOSE (KCBS)— The new budget for Silicon Valley's Valley Transportation Authority calls for fares to stay flat, while increasing bus and light rail service.
That's good news for people like Raymond Soto, a VTA "super commuter" who depends on service.
"Overall VTA is in a very sound financial position," said VTA General Manager Michael Burns.
Burns said their position will allow them to keep fares where they are for the next two fiscal years while increasing service.
"Particularly express bus services from BART to Valley businesses," he said.
Burns credits the labor unions agreeing to wage concessions during the "Great Recession," in order to help get the transit agency on the right track.

The VTA budget must be approved by the full board by June 4th.
Approved by VTA board after series of community meetings at June 4th meeting.
