Silicon Valley Vietnamese Community To Undergo Large Health Survey
SAN JOSE (KCBS) – The Vietnamese community in Silicon Valley is getting a major health check as part of a three month survey.
Officials will call 750 Vietnamese households over the next three months asking questions about mental health, smoking and drinking, communicable disease among other things.
"We're hoping to learn how healthy [the community is], where are their strengths, and perhaps also where are the disparities? Where are the areas we really need to focus on?" said Dr. Marty Fenstershieb, Santa Clara County health officer. "Do we need to focus on Hepatitis B, which we know has been an issue in the past, as has smoking among the youth? This way we'll be able to focus our resources and target our interventions."

It has been ten years since the last health assessment of the Vietnamese community was conducted in Silicon Valley.
