Silicon Valley No More? Carbon Nanotube Transistors May Surpass Traditional Chips
SAN JOSE (KCBS) -- Silicon Valley might have to change its name someday to Carbon Nanotube Valley.
Researchers at the University of Wisconsin say they've managed to create the first carbon nanotube transistors that would surpass today's silicon and gallium arsenide transistors.
Experts have long though carbon nanotube transistors would be better than traditional silicon-based chips because they're faster and use less power.
But, it's been a matter of actually getting things to work.
The Wisconsin researchers say they've come up with a process that filters out impurities at a microscopic scale, making carbon nanotube transistors feasible for commercial production.
