Silicon Valley Assemblyman: State Can't Keep Raising College Tuition
SAN JOSE (KCBS) - A key legislative committee in Sacramento Tuesday will look at making huge cuts at the state's public universities, and one Silicon Valley Assemblyman said higher education will have to bite the bullet.

The California Assembly's Higher Education Committee meets Tuesday in the state capitol to consider Governor Brown's recommended $1.5 billion cuts in higher education. On that committee is Mountain View Assemblymmember Paul Fong, who said that he thinks we've maxed out on CSU and UC tuition increases, so the next step is to reduce enrollment.
"We're going to try to keep it at the same level, but that's why we're having the hearings, to keep the quality of education at the same level in light of these budget deficits," said Fong.
Brown's new budget also calls for an increase of $10 per unit in community college fees. Fong supports those plans, saying these are hard truths to swallow, but the cuts have to be made.
