Signs Point To Economic Comeback in Silicon Valley
SAN JOSE (KCBS) - Hotel occupancy and airport traffic are up in the Silicon Valley, suggesting renewed economic life in the area.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
"In December we saw an increase compared to the year before of 3.6%, in November it was up 4% compared to the previous November," Mineta San Jose International Airport spokesman David Vossbrink outlined the passenger traffic increase. "So those are good things, those are good signs for us."
"This is welcome news compared to the declines we've seen over the past three years. We're hopeful and keeping our fingers crossed that this is a good sign that recovery's on its way."
Santa Clara hotels saw 2010 occupancy rates increase 11% over the previous year. January 2011 was also off to a good start for Santa Clara hotels, thanks in part to the stormy weather on the East Coast.
