Shoplifting Suspect Flees Central Valley Macy's; Leaves Young Daughters Behind
VISALIA, Tulare County (CBS SF) -- A Central Valley woman was facing charges of burglary and child endangerment after allegedly shoplifting items and abandoning her two young children as she fled a Macy's department store in Visalia.
Police reported the incident shortly before 6 p.m., according to an article in the Fresno Bee.
Workers said the 28-year-old woman shoplifted items, and tried to leave while pushing a stroller with one of her daughters when workers tried to stop her.
She broke away after a struggle, but left the stroller with her daughter behind. She also left another daughter behind with an adult friend who was also in the store.
Police found the woman hiding in a car in the mall parking lot, and also discovered a small amount of methamphetamine.
The woman was booked into a detention center for burglary, child endangerment, possession of narcotics, being under the influence of a narcotic, and an outstanding felony warrant.
Her children were placed in the custody of Tulare County Child Welfare Services.
The merchandise was later returned to the store.
