Shootings On New Year's Eve And New Year's Morning Kept San Francisco Police Busy
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — San Francisco police were kept busy as the city rang in the new year with multiple shootings overnight that left several people injured, and resulted in some arrests.
Police spokesman Albie Esparza told KCBS that 2015 began with a shooting in the city's Fisherman's Wharf neighborhood at about 12:30 a.m. at Taylor and North Point streets.
A woman was shot in the leg. Her condition is unknown and police are searching for those suspects.
The second shooting of the year happened in the city's Visitacion Valley neighborhood on Santos Street, near McClaren Park at about 2 a.m.
"The victim was shot in the leg as he was approached by two suspects; it was possibly a robbery attempt," Esparza said.
But there were also shootings before that on New Year's Eve. The first occurred in the city's Bay View neighborhood at about 6 p.m.
Officers happened to be in the area and watched as a car pulled up to a home there.
"They saw a vehicle which was stopped in front of a residence in the 1500 block of Jerrold and fired numerous rounds into a home," Albie Esparza said.
Esparza said the driver then sped off, but collided with a car a few blocks away. He also struck several pedestrians, sending five people to the hospital with non-life threatening injures.
The driver was taken into custody and a gun was recovered.
There was also a Wednesday night shooting at 10:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Market Street, near Grant Street.
The suspect in that incident was also arrested and booked on attempted murder charges. Two guns were recovered.
