OAKLAND – A shooting on New Year's Eve night near one of Oakland's most popular tourist spots left one person dead.

Oakland police say, just after 10 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded near 2nd and Jackson streets to investigate reports of a shooting. There, first responders found one person who was shot. Medics took that person to the hospital in stable condition.

Dispatchers soon got word that three other people with gunshot wounds had shown up at a local hospital.

One of those other shooting victims died at the hospital, Oakland police say; the other two victims were in stable condition.

The name of the person who died has not been released.

Exactly what led up to the shooting is still under investigation by Oakland police, but police do believe all of the victims were shot near 2nd and Jackson streets.

Oakland's Jack London Square is only about three blocks away from the shooting scene.
