Ship That Buried Bin Laden Appearing In SF Fleet Week
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) -- The annual San Francisco Fleet Week celebration will begin on October 6th. One of the ships scheduled to appear is expected to receive plenty of attention.
The USS Carl Vinson used to call Alameda home from 1983-1997. Recently, the aircraft carrier was known for its role following the death of terrorist Osama Bin Laden. The Carl Vinson is the ship that carried Bin Laden's body to the middle of the Indian Ocean, where he was buried at sea.
On Tuesday, the Navy League of San Francisco adopted the Carl Vinson. Members of the league believe the aircraft carrier's recent role will draw big crowds when it anchors in San Francisco Bay next month.
While those attending Fleet Week will be able to take photos of the USS Carl Vinson, it will be closed to tours.
