Sharks Talk Extension With Marleau, Thornton, Boyle
SAN JOSE (CBS Sports) -- The San Jose Sharks announced earlier this week that they signed Joe Pavelski, a free agent after this next season, to a new five-year extension. But he is hardly the only veteran who is, or was, set to go into the final season of his current contract. The same goes for key players Dan Boyle, Patrick Marleau and captain Joe Thornton.
Considering they are all a bit more gray in the beard than Pavelski -- and Logan Couture, who also received a $6 million-per-season extension this summer -- it's fair to wonder if they are all going to be back for more beyond the upcoming season. Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson would like to make it happen.
Wilson said that he has had discussions with all three veterans mentioned above. Whether they are in the preliminary stages or beyond was unclear.
