Sharks Sign Free Agent Defenseman Vandermeer
SAN JOSE (CBS/AP) -- The San Jose Sharks have signed free agent defenseman Jim Vandermeer to a one-year contract.
The Sharks reached the deal with Vandermeer on the first day of the free agency period Friday.
The 31-year-old Vandermeer had two goals, 12 assists and 74 penalty minutes in 62 games with Edmonton last season. He also finished fourth on the team with 122 hits and 78 blocked shots.
Vandermeer adds more depth and physical play to the blue line for San Jose. The Sharks previously acquired All-Star defenseman Brent Burns in a deal with Minnesota last week.
Vandermeer has 24 goals and 77 assists in eight seasons in the NHL.
